Favour Boxes
One of the ways you can make your wedding unique is by using homemade favor boxes. Not only is it cheaper than buying, but these boxes are also very simple to make.
Required Tools and Materials
Scissors
Bone folder
Lightweight cardboard
Ruler
Double-stick tape
Patterned card stock
Step 1
Make a 2 inch square in the middle of the cardboard. Join to a side of the square 3 more so you have four squares.
Remember that each square represents the box’s side. Mark the squares 1, 2, 3 and 4 from left to right.
Step 2
Connect to square 4 a ½ inch wide x 2 inch long tab. This will hook up square 1 with square 4.
Step 3
Put a 2 inch square on square 2’s bottom. Place a 1/2 inch wide x 2 inch long tab at the bottom. Add a 2 inch square to square 4. Put a tab at its top edge. The tab is the same as the one you used earlier. These will be the bottom and top of the box.
Step 4
Connect a 1 inch wide x 2 inch long rectangle on square 1’s top and bottom. For square 2, use a 1 inch wide x 2 inch long rectangle. These are the box flaps.
Step 5
Slice the box shape. Taper the tabs’ shorter sides. Flap them to an angle.
Step 6
Illustrate a straight line by the attachment lines. To make a favor box, you need to cut by these lines.
Step 7
Place the card stock on the table with the wrong side up. Put the template you just made on it. Use a pencil to trace the edges. Slice the stock.
Step 8
Cut the fold line by card stock section that corresponds to the lines you made.
Step 9
Fold it by the cut fold lines. Put tape on the tab’s right side on square 4. Fold squares 1 to 4. Join the tab in side square 1.
Step 10
Fold the square on that end. Place the tab in the box.
Step 11
Flip the box over. Repeat the process for the other side.
What to Put in the Boxes
The most popular choices are food. The traditional choices are the five almonds. These symbolize long life, wealth, fertility, health and happiness. Some modern weddings use colorful candies like M&Ms.
Colored candies are good choices for color themed weddings. Other popular choices are champagne bubble candies, heart shaped chocolates and mints. If you want something more sophisticated, you can go for truffles.
Other food items you can put in there are fortune cookies, pecans and many more. And it doesn’t have to be food all the time. You can put in votive candles or mini jars too.
Because weddings inevitably cost a lot of money, it is comforting to know that you can easily make favor boxes at home. Not only will you save cash, but by putting different kinds of food there, you will make the wedding even more memorable.
